I'm using Leopard and Firefox, no anti virus or anything. Can my computer be harmed by visiting websites? (Not actually downloading files and whatnot, just loading it.)
Some Mac OS X, Firefox and Internet security questions.?internet security software
Be harmed, not really. There are no MacOs X viruses, so you are safe there. Some websites do put "cookies" in your browser preferences, from this they can tell how often you visit and generally from what state etc. you are in. If you don't want the cookies which remember passwords etc., you can delete them after visiting websites. You can have Safari do "private" browsing and you can also have Firefox delete all the info when you quit it. There is one MacOs X malware, you get it from a porn site (it masquerades as a needed software item to view porn). It's a fake. Just don't download software from porn sites or "free" software to look for viruses (same malware, different website).

Everything is possible but in this case it is very very unlikely. There are not many virus, if any, in the the wild for Mac so you don't need a antivirus as long as you are careful.
