AVG antivirus in combination with Spybot-Search%26Destroy, would provide you the ultimate protection that even some paid counterparts would fail to provide. both are freewares and completely compatible with eachother. AVG takes care of the viruses and Spybot scans for adwares,spywares and trojans eliminating them using it's built in secure shredder.
