Connecting to a network/internet security questions?

I'm at work and would like to connect to a stronger network other than the wireless one I'm on with my laptop. If I unplug the Ethernet cord from the computer near me and plug that into my laptop will they be able to see what I'm doing or get my personal information?? I don't my bosses to see me on youtube!!

The technology to track your Internet browsing is there but whether your company uses that technology is unknown to me. There is plenty of software and hardware out there that can track your browsing right down to each individual web page.

My company once had software that tracked web access and ran reports that showed how much it was costing (based on a preset average hourly rate) them to allow each employee to surf the Internet.

My suggestion would be, if you don't want your boss to know, don't do it.

Good luck,

if you don't want them to see then don't do it it's pretty simple
If the network admin has a tap and isn't dumb, yes they will be bale to find out what sites you are visiting.
technically yes. Also the ports run back to a machine called a switch that may be programmed for just the card in the other machine by it's MAC address (a very long hexidecimal number that's like a cards name) and it can be set to shutdown the port if a different machine tries to use that connection to protect against information theft and breakins like putting a hub there and hiding a computer attatched to it. Also, what computer is on the end doens't matter, they can monitor netowrk traffic like that packets are coming from "youtube.com to YourComputer", but they can't use remoting software that they undoubtedly have. and that's more dangerous if you're in a small company because they likely don't have a great amount of resources and therefore a limited IT department.
