Problem with Syberia computer game?

I'm stuck in the hotel lobby in Aralbad -- can't get through the security door to find Helena. All the walkthroughs I've read say to just press the red button behind the counter, and the door will open. In my case, the door just buzzes, but doesn't open? Am I missing something? Or is it possible there's a bug in my game, or something...? (I know -- that's not likely...)

i had the exact same problem!! it didn't work on my dell xp home edition computer but it worked on a hp computer. im not sure what exact kind of computer that is but it worked on that one. so i think it might just be the kind of computer. goodluck!!
