Calling all Limewire owners and people who know a lot about it/security.?

I just purchased a new Toshiba laptop with windows Vista and got it monday. I downloaded iTunes and everything, and I have heard soo much about Limewire, but the truth is I'm scared. I am afraid to download it because this laptop is mine and I don't want anything to happen to it. Is it safe? Does it cause viruses? On our last computer, I downloaded it and the computer stopped working. Will this happen? should I download it?

Limewire USED to have spyware. That was more than a year ago, so maybe when you downloaded it and used it, it was some time ago?

To tell you the truth, I was deliberating over this same issue a few months back. On one hand, there was just so many things you could download from it. On the other hand, what if my computer got spyware? I asked a few friends of mine who had it, and they assured me it was perfectly safe, so I downloaded it. I have been using it for months now, and there is nothing wrong at all with my laptop.

Limewire itself is not illegal, but downloading copyright content from it is. However, when you download content, you should always make sure to have your anti-virus program enabled, just in case you come upon an infected file. That has happened to me before, but your anti-virus program should be able to block the threats.
