It starts and then shuts down immediately and I can't use it. The computer will play a music cd but it won't read the cd rom. Any suggestions.

Sincerely wish that I had a technical answer to your problem. If your CD drive reads the music data then I see no reason why the data on Kaspersky is not being read, unless the disk is "blank".

If you have a neighbor with a PC, perhaps they will allow you to insert the CD into their CD drive to see if there is actually readable data on the Cd.

Or you may have to take the CD back to where you purchased with your receipt and tell the store that the CD shows no data. Ask them to put the CD into their PC and see what happens.

I've checked,and the average per hour here in Louisville is like $50 an hour.

I'm currenty in the PC repair business and you can certainly make more than $150 a week. Here's what I recommend to get started: since you haven't done this before, I'd start out charging a little less than what others are charging. You can get that info from maybe the yellow pages, call some of the other shops and get an idea of what they charge.

Maybe you could start out charging $40 an hour on site and maybe $50 flat fee if they drop it off to you. That way there's no pressure to get it repaired right away. But you should still repair the PC to the customer's satisfaction because you want them to be a return customer and you can also use them for referrals.

There's a whole lot more into the PC repair business but this should get you started for now. Make sure you do your homework before you quit your day job.

I am using XP pro. When ever I open my internet explorer 6 on my desktop automatically it opens a page of a blog site, I tried to change the default settings to mail.yahoo.com by opening internet options but it wont allow me to change. I tried everything, like running ccleaner, Spybot, Ad-aware SE, Anti-virus (CA security) in safe mode, but no success. I also see a name of a person on the blue line of top of the webpage. Punch the name of the site into google. You should be able to find out how to get rid of it there. You will sometimes have to go into the registry and do some editing.

Plug your computer into a different electrical outlet, make sure your speakers are compatible with your computer, make sure there are no other systems near your computer, such as a stereo, radio, or anything of this nature. It's not usual for speakers to pickup voices. The cell phone population is creating a serious "micro wave" feedback problem. As a last resort, contact a computer store and have them make a service call. Know what I mean?!

I switched to AVG from Norton Systemworks 2006 and am quite happy with the change. AVG has done everything one would expect from a good antivirus program. In fact go to http://www.download.com and read the publishers description, the tech review, and the user reviews to further evaluate it.

Be careful with Norton. I rebuilt my hard drive twice after the initial install and Norton shut me off from using my $80 copy of Systemworks based on "too many installations" even though I only installed it on the same PC. Based on their position I have discontinued buying or using their products after about 10 years of purchasing it faithfully.

Additionally, you are correct and the experts agree with you. Both Norton and McAfee are resource hogs and will slow down your PC drastically.

You can absolutely reinstall Norton a second (or third, fourth, etc) time. As long as you have the license key that you were provided with and as long as you're not installing it on more computers than you are licensed for, you should have no problem at all.

An active-X control is an executable just like any other program that you download. And just like any other downloaded program, active-X can be used for good or bad.

Some website's active-X can deliever to your computer spyware and adware, often by misleading the visitor into downloading an active-X control that the website claims is necasary for the site to "work".

Only let active-X be downloaded from reputable websites that you trust 110% and never allow any active-X control to be downloaded that is not "Signed". Always err on the side of caution when downloading or allowing the use of active-X controls.

And NEVER lower your Internet Explorer security settings in the Internet Zone below the default settings. That is "Medium" for IE-6 and "Medium-High for IE-7.

Don't use standby on desktop computers. Only Laptops.

Your screen turning off is likely to be to do with your Power Settings.

Right click Desktop and click Properties, click ScreenSaver and click Power Settings. Then make sure the turn off screen is set to a later time or Never - depending on if you want it to turn off.

For IE 7 crashing, I am not sure. Check that it isn't the website or reinstall program.

Someone has either hijacked the domain, hacked it so that it points elsewhere, or it's not a valid address and someone has a redirect somewhere else. I went to it and got the same results. It's not your PC that's doing it. McAfee has an analysis on it, but simply lists it as suspicious and reports back the same results as you do about the pointing of the entry to the other domains.

I tried : Bitdefender online scan , AVG free , nod 32 - 30 days trial , Kaspersky internet security 6.0 30 days trial - the antiviruses I used did not detect or could not desinfect the file. I cannot delete the file. The last antivirus I tried is Kaspersky int sec ( as above ) : it detects the virus, but cannot desinfect.

The file C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe is not infected.

Of course you cannot delete it because it is a live file. If you use Task Manager (press ctrl + alt + Delete) and click on the Porcesses tab, you will see many instances of this file in your list of processes. If you try and end the process then Windows may become unstable and shutdown.

This file is also kept in:

C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386

You could copy it to C:\Windows\System32 but I doubt if it would fix anything because service host runs all the time even in safe mode. You would have to boot in safe mode and select the Command Prompt only in order to copy the file from one directory to another.

I suspect you have a 'false positive' report from one or more of these anti-virus programs.

Unless they state that the file is in C:\Windows\svchost.exe i.e. it is in the wrong location then it might be a false report.

Norton uses a lot of resources so get a new anti virus (avast,avg,mcafee,nod32,antivir) they use much lesser resources than Norton

Download CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/download/) and clean your system from clutter,download a registry cleaner (http://www.freewarefiles.com)

Then defrag again and do a scan of your disks

Uninstall applications you don't use

Insufficient RAM appears to be the primary issue. But you can try a couple different things.

I would run your task manager (control+alt+delete) and go to the Processes tab to see what is hogging up all of your resources. If you can see that some app or process is maxing resources, stop it and reboot.

If you have plenty of HD space but your RAM is pegged out under the Performance tab then something is working OT.

Was Cain%26Abel removed or is it still active? If it is still active, you need to take it to a PC expert (reputable and CERTIFIED) so they can remove the infection.

If you've done what I did and purchased McAfee directly off their website, then it is most likely licenced for 3 computers so you will be able to use it on your Laptop. If it came with your PC then it probably isn't, and you won't.

Im no computer expert but i presume the taking off sound is the fan and it may be broken causing your pc to over heat which can cause major problems.

The best idea is to get it checked out before it gets any worse.

The error reports go to microsoft to let them know this error has ocurred and if they recieve lots of the same errors they try to sort out this problem. So it doesnt really help you all that much

It's most likely to be a fan but there is a possibility that it's the hard drive. Just check the hard drive light on the front of the case when the noise occurs. If it stays off then it's one of the fans. If however it's flashing indicating hard drive action the noise could indicate a dodgy hard drive. You would be well advised in this case to back up anything important on your computer to flash drive or cd or even better a USB hard drive. You should do this regularly anyway as it's too late when you lose all your files. Hope this helps.

Do as the instructions state and get the lates version of the flash player/plugin...that may fix it....if not i woul dupgrade IE and hope that it fixes it.

You can use something like digicam http://www.digi-watcher.com/ which will work with a wide variety of cameras. I have personal experience with Creative Labs' software http://www.creative.com/products/welcome... for this purpose and found it completely functional but very difficult to set up (and I'm a IT Professional). If you can get a static address though, I'd recommend using a standalone system. There are cheap ones, like the x10 http://www.x10.com/homepage.htm which you may remember from their extensive pop-up campaign a few years ago; and really good ones like Axis http://www.axis.com/ which cost more but are more secure and reliable. I have personal experience with the Axis line, and found them to be exceptionally good. In general, you can search for "ip cameras" and find hundreds of models at ranges from %26lt;$100 to $1000s. You can even by several from Amazon.

There must be some AVG support program/s still running on you computer, the name may not AVG related. One way to resolve this is to install AVG again, which the programs and processes that are installed during setup. You can identify those process by checking the time they are installed. Then remove them all together. Norton does something like that, too.

Exposing hidden files and folders is a necessary step in getting proper scanning and removal of malware. Most of todays Trojans and other infections hide in these files and folders because they are not scanned in the Normal or Safe Mode alone.

Open the hidden files and folders for the scan and then close them once the scan is complete. Do not leave the accessable all of the time.

TEMPORARILY SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS.

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2. Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options.

3. On the View tab, under Hidden files and folders, click "Show hidden files and folders", and clear(uncheck) the "Hide protected operating system files" check box.

IMPORTANT: Files are hidden by Windows for a very good reason. It is not wise to experiment with these files. Unfortunately, to successfully remove modern spyware we must turn this protection off temporarily. Please turn the protection back on when you have finished cleaning your system.

Check your electricity in your home or place. That was the cause of my computer doing that. Also you could still have a virus. Do you have DSL? If so and you are still using other things like Norton that could also be a problem. The DSL folks have to protect you. You could have too MUCH protection believe it or not. That was also causing shut downs for me.

Hi. Shutdowns are sometimes caused by excessive heat. Check your CPU fan and heatsink for dust and make sure you have adequate case ventilation.
Control panel. click on power icon and look were it says 20 minutes to shut down change it to never then click apply.
Sounds to me like you need to change your settings--a computer can be set up to hibernate or turn off after so many minutes of idle time. If that doesnt work try your system restore-to an earlier date when it did what you wanted it to.
yeah, the heat may cause that.. and it also can mean that you're about to loose everything, so you'd better start making a backup of your files...

'cause when it happened with my, everytime it turned off, i started it over again... than one day my computer broke and i lost everything (a motherboard problem, wich might have been avoided).

so i recommend you consider making a backup of your files as soon as possible... it's a risk you might take!

but if you can, take you computer to some tecnic.

Hmmm I'm guessing you want online available info to look at...tough one. I personally have several documents and plenty of notes due to my profession.

This is one of the problems with security- to keep it secure you can't go telling the world too much about how you do it.

Start with the NIST site, this is the most comprehensive location regarding crypto and security methods you will find however it is VERY technical. NIST is the National Institute of Standards and Technology. All industry accepted standards including security models get tested and certified here and there is a wealth of detail on how the testing is performed and how each product works. You should find everything you need under security testing through various links there.

Post again if you need detail on something specific you can't find there.

You should have an anti-spyware solution on your computer. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search %26 Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.

If you loaded a new OS, like BT Yahoo.....it automatically opened a limited new account for you....simply go into the Admin settings and delete it.....but DO delete it.

hmmmm if you did not make this user than it is worrying i dont think any of those programs would make a new user try deleting the user and if one of these programs no longer work use system restore to restore back(make a restore point first)

I cannot download any programs from the internet at all, even Microsoft Updates. I have Zone Alarm Security Suite running as a virus checker and am getting no reports of a virus. I have also tried this with Spybot with no indication of a problem. I connect via a Firewall router.

All I get is the message Access denied, Page Blocked or HTTP 404 error message.

It is also preventing me from updating my Zonealarm updates.

Anyone any ideas?

uninstall zone alarm software first and use AVG antivirus as virus security software.

First, try to identify what's preventing you from downloading stuff.

Try shutting down each security program that you have. Specially the Zone Alarm firewall.

If that's not the reason, try accessing your router manufacturer's website or the instructions manual to see if there could be a reason for blocking the internet traffic.
I would start using other browsers such as Firefox or opera. I had problems with internet explorer myself though not the same as yours, i couldn't open a pop up window or download without restarting trouble. internet explorer is vulnerable to viruses mate .the switch to opera and firefox has been worth it. no problems just quick downloads especially with firefox. i cant even make up my mind which of the two is better

Probably you got new adware/trojan. Norton mostly focuses on virus and is slow on updating such parasites. Spybot S%26D is quite slow on detecting new parasites too.

Try scanning with superantispyware (www.superantispyware.com) It has free edition.

I recently updated my Zone Alarm security and since then I am getting all these viruses. It says it

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters. (I have no idea what this entire part means)

Well, just because you have both of those programs installed doesn鈥檛 mean your 100%. In conjunction with that I would recommend that you also make sure that you have all the latest Windows update from www.microsoft.com.

One easy way to check is while connected to the internet,

at the top of internet explorer click on tools%26gt;Windows update.

Two other great products as well are:

Windows Defender beta 2.0

and Spybot.

But as someone said, at least you HAVE antivirus.

Make sure you have a BETTER firewall than the one in Sp2..because honestly..it isn't very good.

Yes why not. Norton Internet security has an Anti virus software, a firewall and spyware software. And you also decided to get spysweeper. So that's it. You are now protected from viruses, hackers and spywares. Good combo. Make sure you update your security software for best results.

1. d out what program they use and download the codec or software

2. ensure Norton is "allowing" this feature

Same here, I downloaded the latest windows media player and it works fine now.
The big thing is...

Your internet connection (if you have cable or DSL, then you should be ok).

Also, the Rams may not be enough and need to be upgraded...

Also, check your Video card, and make sure its up to date, and as powerful as you need it...
