I had a pc ran on XP Windows from 5 years ago that died but was able to save the hard drive with all my pics/music, etc so when I bought my new dell PC that also ran on XP I installed the previous hard drive as my "E" drive.
But now I go to access the document folder it says "access is denied." My folder never had security code or set to private. Any suggestions on how to access it? thank you.

Probably because you are using a different username then you did with the old drive. Log out and log in as administrator and you should be able to access them that way.
Logging in as administrator on the computer will solve the problem. Then right click the E drive %26gt; Properties%26gt;sharing and enable it.
I know this is not the perfect solution but there is something called 'taking ownership' in Windows server 2003 where an admin can take ownership and set what security users can access it. I don't seem to find it in Windows XP.
Are you sure your hard disk is okay and is not corrupted? sometimes there might be bad sectors which may cause this kinda problem.
If you don't, I guess logging in as admin will enable you to access, as another user has pointed out.
run a registry cleaner through,,,,,,,tuneup utillities 2008 is a really good 1
