when i open up my browser a security page appears instead of my home page. is there some sort of way i can wipe my hard drive clean and install my programs? tried system restore but that didn't do it either.i keep getting the system alert bubble that of course wants me to buy some program that doesnt work will i have to scrap my entire drive?

What you have is called a "rogue scanner". It is a type of spyware. Usually Skybot Seek%26Destroy (free at http:download.com ) can clean those.
