I just updated Norton security and If I try to open another internet window, previous internet window dissapears and only the new one shows.

If it started doing this after your Norton updated, I suggest you go into the Norton options and configuration and check to see if there is such a thing as internet window opening up one at a time only.

maybe you should try avant browser, Great for multiple windows. Created for that purpose.
Open the "folder options" control panel. Go to the "general" tab. The option is in the middle.

BTW: I assume you are on a PC. On a Mac there is also an option somewhere but I have forgotten.

The reason the Windows XP Security Center does not detect all antivirus or firewall applications, is that the current Windows operating system catalog has not been updated by Microsoft with all the recent software signature additions.

Get another firewall, install it and remove the one you are using. Perhaps this may resolve the problem.

A quick question about Windows Security?

I use a hard and soft firewall, virus protection, Spam software, etc. My concern is the Windows logo screen. How difficult would it be to hack into my Windows XP computer if it's stolen? Any suggestions to make this possibility, well, impossible?

Depending on the sophistication of the hackers, all they have to do is remove the hard drive to read the information on it. They can throw the rest of the computer away. There's encryption software available to help protect your information:

The sad fact is, all you can do is make it more difficult for the bad guys. Someone out there will find a way to defeat whatever security measures you can come up with. Even secure government computers have been hacked. Hope some of this helps.

Registry Cleaner and Internet payment security with Pay Pal question, can you help?

Hi, I am looking at registry cleaners to purchase and install on my computer. The two top recommendations I've seen from "Ask a Nerd.com are:

"XP Medic" (this scan found 119 errors and is made specifically for Windows XP and cost slightly more than the product below).

and

"Registry Patrol" (this products scan found 162 errors)

Can anyone tell me if they know anything about either product?

As well, I'm squeamish about purchasing online and would prefer not to, but I have been unable to locate either product through local vendors, but each site has an option of paying through Pay Pal.

Does anyone know of payment safety through the Pay Pal feature regarding online safety? I have never used this before, and wish to look thoroughly before I leap!

Suddenly on my desktop there are 3 shortcuts to "error cleaner" "Spyware and malfunction" and "privay (something)" and my homepage keeps changing to stange websites that offer my proection in privacy and from spyware. I keep getting 2 warnings on my screen. One of the warning comes very often telling me that there is a malcious or virust or spayware etc... another warning warns that windows has found securtiy problem with a worm.win32.netsky and I should remove it and gives a security threat level five. I had Norton Anti Virus and intenret security not update for 6 months and an update adaware by lavasoft a personal edition. I move the norton and downloaded a 2008 antivirus by norton (basic) but all scan showed no threats.

My question: Is thsis virus probelm or spyware? or both?

How do I remove it without having to buy new software or if I must buy than what should I buy excatly. Please help.

Got a Virus, get NOD32, I have not found a virus it could not remove yet and it constantly protects your pc with a shield also so that these horrible virus's will never get inside your CPU again.

My computer keeps restarting?

It seems like it reboots when I start Ad Aware, but this was happening before I installed that. I know when it needs to reboot because it freezes or goes straight to BSOD. I have AdAware and Spybot, both removed a combined 62 spyware/malware. Should I download AVG or run a anti virus scan? I used Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool; it scanned and found nothing. When I install ZoneAlarm Security Suite, it reboots more often. What is going on??!!

The problem is ur Ad Aware and that Spyware thing. i tried a spyware months ago and it corrupted 2 of my most important files. if u have downloaded it from the internet then quickly uninstall it or ur computer might malfunction.

It sounds like one of those programs need to do a scan before it will operate correctly. When the computer is loading it come to a point that it whats to do a boot scan. So as it is loading and blue screen comes on and says about hit spacebar to exit scan. Don't hit the spacebar let it do its scan. I think that these progams in the early part of its install it asked if you wanted to a boot scan when restarting you hit the ok. Well you installed the program but didnt do the boot scan. So try restarting it and do the scan that should stop it from doing the restarts. Been there done that.
That's what sometimes happens when I try installing something in my laptop, so I think your computer is infected with some kind of virus.
right click my computer, go to properties, go to advanced tab, start up and recovery settings, uncheck automatically restart and next time it restarts you will get a blue screen next time which will give you a code, usually ox000000(and then a 2 digit number) or might give u more of an explanation then you can google that error and will give you ideas as to why it keeps restarting.
If you don't have an antivirus program then yes get a program installed.
