my homepage has been changed by a d*mn security center and it wont change. how can i get it changed, it wont let me block it or change my homepage.

also if you haven't done so already, download internet explorer 7!

another way is to go onto google and then select make this my hompage on the google site, then you can change it to whatever you wanted afterwards!

I had this problem and could find no geniune answer to sort this problem. Now its resolved. The best option for this is to Just do a system restore (i have Windows XP) .

To do this goto to

Start%26gt;%26gt;Help and support%26gt;%26gt;Pick a task%26gt;%26gt;Undo changes to your computer with System Restore

Restore back to one or 2 days and your system will work fine. It dosen't even make any changes to your recent documents jus removes all the installed programs evenspyware and ad ware and viruses.

The media player things are no fun. Once windows invited me to download a newer version! Bad. Its best to have one and leave it be. Find out from your brother if he knows what he used to run the animation first before you do anything. Believe me I had to totally redue my system from scratch because I messed up the default media player. Shockwave is somewhat different - will work independantly.

I click a .pdf file and my pc is asking if I'm sure I want to open it. I just clicked it, right? Of course I want to open it! And no I don't want any updates! Even if they are already downloaded! I don't care if there are unused icons on my desktop. I want them there! Maybe I'm planning to use them someday. If not I'll delete them myself if I want to. I don't care if my computer might be at risk. Something happens I'll format. But while it's ok, may i use MY pc without answering bunch of questions I don't care about?

Although, you wont be "bugged" anymore, you are putting you PC at a HIGH RISK, because these updates actually make your PC secure, work faster and better. I will recommend you leave these updates on. As for the desktop cleanup wizard, it simply places unused icons in a folder, it doesn't delete them. In a way, I guess it makes your desktop look a bit tidier.

All in all, I believe it's a small price to pay for keeping a healthy PC.

My husband has been unable to access a local website he needs to find work. It says internet explorer cannot display this web page. You know the typical standard message you get when you can't access a website. The weird thing is, is that a friend of his who only lives a mile away can access the same site with no problem.?? Now the question. What could it be that can keep him from accessing this page? He has already lowered his security levels and still nothing. And he knows he has the address right. His friend even emailed him the link to no avail. Please help! Thank you in advance. :)

Do you have problems with any other sites? Is it a secure site and are you able to access any other secure sites?

Try this method (I'm assuming you're on a Windows XP or Vista PC):

Click Start %26gt; select Run %26gt; type "cmd" in the box without the quotes

A black box should now pop up. In that box, type "nslookup www.website.com" without quotes and hit enter

It should translate the site into numbers, like 69.147.114.21 (that's Yahoo's DNS address), and enter that in the address bar in Internet Explorer and see if the page loads. If that doesn't work contact your ISP.

Something in the rendering engine of IE is broken. Very, VERY old story. You could try a Windows Repair but you will lose a lot of your settings and data.Not worth it. Ditch IE and replace it with Opera http://www.opera.com/ .It's far better and free.
