i had mcafee installed from comcast probably sometime in like early 06 when my free trial of norton gave off. a month or two ago, something happened. now everytime im on the computer, theres no mcafee logo on the taskbar, and i can't open it from the start menu, the desktop, or my program files folder. however when i open the task manager, it says mcafee is running. any ideas on how to fix it so that i can open it?

This program make my computer run very slow, stop responding, hangs, almost unusable until I go to safemode and stop any Norton service or program in startup. I'm glad I could unistall it. After that everything runs ok. Please remove it from the bar!

You can also do a system restore. Click Start %26gt; All Programs %26gt; Accessories %26gt; System Tools %26gt; click System Restore and restore back to a point that it worked. The only problem is you will lose any downloads or changes you made after that restore point.

well from what i can understand if you are using limewire and dont want your limewire folder to be shared go to tools%26gt;options and there you can see the setting.Similarly with itunes if you dont want your itunes to be shared go to edit%26gt;preferences%26gt;sharing%26gt; uncheck the box where it says share my library.
highlight all your files on limewire, right click and choose unshare or stop sharing

I used Norton Internet Security, 2007 to scan my Pc and once it discovers the virus, it ask me 2 save all my work and restarts instead of removing it and when my system boots, it displays something about my system recovering from a serious system error (at every startup)... but the virus is still there and each time i scan Norton restarts my system to protect it or the system restarts itself. Now I am afraid it will restart my system any minute from now and even more afraid to scan my PC because Norton is afraid of the visus 2, please help me out!
i suggest that you save all your work to CD's and DVD's or an external hard drive (whichever you have to use) then get your windows CD (im assuming you operate Windows) and reboot your whole PC. it will wipe everything from the memory of your computer, deleting the virus with it!! and you will have a brand new PC :P it will go a lot faster too!! good luck

I am unable to pull up the Facebook site. It was working fine yesterday and nothing has been installed or changed on my system.(that I know of) I can bring up any other site out there. I have tried turning off my internet security, lowering my security, cookies to the lowest possible level and am now at the point of frustration as none of this has been successful. I have tried system restore, uninstalling and reinstalling IE7. (I even swore at it a couple of times) I would appreciate any suggestions, and yes, I deleted my temp files and cookies also......... :(
Try downloading Firefox and see if you can access it through that browser. If it works, then obviously there's something wrong with IE7 (wouldn't be the first time). Who knows, maybe you'll actually like Firefox and stick with it. :)

The Non secure items are from that website not from your computer. like someone already said just check the little box that says don't show this message anymore and that should stop it.

On this page, make sure you see a "pad lock" icon somewhere near the bottom of your browser. The pad lock icon indicates that the password you are going to enter will be sent to a secure server. Norton often turns OFF the Windows firewall. This is a normal message, some of the links to images on the page are at different sites which are not secured, but the site you are logging in to IS. There is a tick box to tell the system not to show this message again if you wish.

the first thing you should download is a good anti virus program. There are several free ones out there, as well as you comercial ones like McAffee or Nortons. however you pay them and they still let viruses through. I personally use and like AVG free. you can down load it at downloads.com.
You should have a spyware program. I use Lavasofts Adaware. Again that is a free program.

Yes it will cost money to renew. However,I HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting Panda Antivirus instead. I had Norton and still got a virus.Since I've had Panda,it's blocked and eliminated a virus and lots of spyware. You can get a free trial for a month and if it works for you,then you can renew. If ur avast antivirus is running on system tray, then no problem. Security center only detects certain antivirus programs like norton, mcafee... who paid for MS. So don't worry about security center. Actually i removed security center from my pc. It can't detect nod32 %26 kaspersky.
I've used Avast for years. It has always worked well for me with no conflicts with other programs. Try setting it up again. Maybe you have a conflict. Are you running another anti-virus program?
I had AVG years ago. I wasn't satisfied with it but I have forgotten why. Its probably pretty good though.
One thing you should always do is to create restore dates with the Restore package provided by Microsoft. Its quick and easy. This is an especially good idea to do before downloading and setting up new programs.
Always scan new downloads before installing them.

The only thing that replying will do is confirm that the address you hold is valid. The spam is sent out and the spammers don't know if the addresses are valid or not the instant you reply...even if it is to say F O you've told them that your address is valid and they can spam you more and sell your valid address to other spammers.

Norton scans for viruses, you have adaware/spyware and you need to get anti-spyware programs.
Pop-ups are mostly caused by Malware (computer viruses, worms, trojan horses, spyware, dishonest adware, and other malicious and unwanted software) and using pop-up blocker won't help an infected PC. Since no single program can detect and eradicate all spyware, I recommend using Ad-aware and Spybot which are among the best (they are free).
Running these programs in Safe Mode (tap F8 as the computer boots up and choose to boot to safe mode) can be more effective.
If you do not have an updated anti-virus program always running, you need to get one. Install only 1, but you can get AVG, Avast! or AntiVir for free.

Yes and no, they can't "see your computer" unless they have remote viewing software installed on your machine but they can indeed review the router logs and tell what sites were visited. If they have "packet capture" software installed somewhere on the system they can indeed see what data was sent and received but that is not an easy thing for anyone to decipher. However, that is the case whether you are wired or wireless! Unsecured wireless can be "intercepted" and captured by anyone within the same connection, secured wireless sends encrypted packets that only the router can decipher.
Added.. There are cases of Identity theft by wifi. Seems the bad guys setup "open routers" hoping you will connect and then capture everything including user-names and passwords which they can then use to become YOU. So the best advice I can give you is only use NETWORKS you KNOW!
Recently I needed a *.sys file for a driver (on an old Windows ME computer ). I search the internet to find the file. After I found it I download it (and By mistake I did choose open instead of save).
Now I'm a bit concern that it can afect my Windows XP sistem.
I downloaded again the file -- and after that I scanned the file for viruses (I have an up to date F- Secure antivirus subscription) and It is came clean (no viruses find). But when I putted the *.sys file in the Windows Me system (it didn't work as it is suppose to work).
I runned a comprehesive virus check on both computres and no viruses found. I know I'm a bit paranoid but I want to know if *sys files can contain viruses

I suggest getting a new internet security like F-Secure or ZoneAlarm as they are much better than Norton because Norton takes way too many resources and does not so good a job.

Great question....I say DUMP IT. It is over-bloated crap that takes up way too many system resources. Save yourself $40 a year (not to mention lots of memory) by getting rid of it and switching to something like AVG. To legally gain access you must have a network setup and have yourself as the adminstrator. If you're attempting to unlawfully break in and don't that much about IP addresses right now, I think McAfee will be able to stop you.
you will have to set up a vpn connection. 1 computer will be a server the next the host. you will have to set up the server for incoming connections, set up a user id and start the remote networking services. microsoft.com has tons of info about this. just search their knowledge base about vpn connections. not to mention you have to open the ports on your router. have fun this can be a pain the *** if you are learning.

3. Using Windows Vista (it's similar if you have XP), open Control Panel --%26gt; Network Connections. You should see an Unidentified Network (the Xbox 360) and a Wireless Network Connection (your wireless router), both of which are connected.
4. Bridge the two connections by selecting them both, right-clicking on one, and clicking Bridge Connections.
5. Windows will create a network bridge that will allow your 360 to use your laptop's wireless connection.

There's a chip in the key that apparently has to synch with a computer elsewhere in the vehicle, and if it doesn't, I'm supposed to wait three minutes for it to start. There is an rf tag inside the key. Its similar to the tag you put inside pets to find them if they are lost. The sensor on the key tumbler reads the rf tag, sends the code to the ecu and then allows you to start the car. The only thing you can do, is to replace the key.
Gm charges $90 bucks a key.
There is an article on google that i read, where a guy cut up his key, and copied the rf tag signature, build a little memory board, and placed it inside his dash. He then could use a non rf tag key to start the car. But, this would require alot of work, and i couldnt tell you how to do it. if your interested, im sure you can google it.

Get a new key. Usually the chip in the key will go out before the computer in the car. If you have a new functioning key, and the problem persists,then the computer in the vehicle is likely having issues. This car is ten years old, so issues like this are not uncommon.
I m using a P4 with 512 MB RAM. I even have recently changed the power supply. There is hopefully no virus as I am using PC-Cillin Internet Security 2006 with virus definitions updated everyday! Also, check the "Event Viewer" by going to Start -%26gt; Control Panel -%26gt; Administrative Tools -%26gt; Event Viewer. It will open up Windows' Event Viewer and you can check in System or Application to see if anything malfunctioned (indicated by a red X) right before your last restart.

Your security settings maybe too high in internet explorer. Open your Internet options in Control Panel. Or at the top of the browser Tools%26gt;Internet Options. Then select the SECURITY TAB. Then reset all to default.
Also examine the Tab PROGRAMS. select Manage Add ons. Look at the programs that are loaded when Internet explorer starts up.

A key-logger will do the trick. Some places sell hardware key-loggers that you can plug a computer's keyboard into. The user will not notice it, and you will have access to all of their passwords. No security measures on the computer can prevent this.

My problem is my Java script keeps popping up with error messages. My settings are correct and my security and firewall is where it should be. I have tried to remove the program and add it again still have the same problem. The most basic requirement for solving any error is to know what the error message says - something which you haven't mentioned. I haven't used Pogo games, so am not sure, but some games require JVM (Java Virtual Machine - which is not javascript) and some require flash and some - something else.

Run adaware, spybot, norton and spysweeper. your hd may need replacing and/or it has too much stuff on it.
just cause you got norton doesnt mean you wont get other sorts of malware. in fact my spysweeper got stuff that norotn never looks for. I got the one with all the spy stuff too for the norton program.

Along with the cameras, you will also want a security digital video recorder (DVR) to record the video. If anything occurs while he is out of town, he can access the video remotely anywhere in the world using an internet connection.

Always be careful when playing with the registry. Use a backup program because simply exporting the entire registry %26 reimporting it won't work via the regedit interface. It's only good for single registry keys. MS lack of fully functioning tools at work once again.

What has probably happened is that Windows is making a shadow copy of your hard drive. In other words, it is making a duplicate image of your hard drive in case of system failure and loss of data. Consequently, this eats up your available hard disk drive space twice as fast.
When I am wondering what big files are consuming most of my space, I just perform a simple search. From Windows XP, you would click START %26gt; SEARCH %26gt; ALL FILES AND FOLDERS %26gt; WHAT SIZE IS IT %26gt; SPECIFY SIZE (IN KB). Then make sure that it says "at least" and to the right of that, type in a big number, like 10000. Click SEARCH.
The procedure for searching in Vista is a bit different. You will have to do an 'advanced search' from within the Vista Search window. I don't have Vista running at this moment and therefore cannot tell you exactly how to accomplish this task.
Anyways, this will start a search of your local hard drives and will bring a result list of all files on your computer that are over 10000 KB (10 megs). Once it is done searching, click the word SIZE in the column heading in the result search list to sort the documents by size.

The wireless network you are picking up must be somebody elses nearby as you say you have no phoneline. The have wpa security on it so nobody else can use their internet connection

What you are doing is trying to get onto someone else's wireless without their permission. In the USA that is illegal and you can be fined if caught.
The security key it is asking for is the password the person you are trying to steal a wireless signal from set on his wireless router. You need to ask them what the password is in order to get on. There is nothing to buy.

I would check the file association for the file type (ie. jpeg, jpg, gif). I have seen this happen when the file is trying to open with Microsoft Photo Manager.
Open My compter %26gt; Tools %26gt; Folder Options %26gt; File Types tab. Find the file type and associate it to Microsoft Picture/Fax Viewer or a photo editor you have installed.

I would recommend that you contact McAfee technical support directly and have them walk you through your settings over the phone. You'll also want to make sure you have the program installed correctly, properly configured, completely up to date and also that you have an entire suite that includes adware protection.
With PuPs (potentially unwanted programs) you may not want your security suite to automatically delete them all... but there should be settings within the programs preferences that allow you to specify what actions it will take.

Try running McAfee in Safe Mode. Safe Mode often prevents malware from protecting itself.
Also, turn off System Restore to evict any copies of bad stuff that might be lurking there.
To get into Safe Mode:
1.Log out and reboot your machine.
2.When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key repeatedly.
3.Select Safe Mode from the resulting menu.
4.When the login screen comes up, log in as Administrator. By default, Administrator has no password.
5.The machine will continue booting, but the Windows desktop will look different. You won't be able to see the Internet, for instance.
6.When you're finished, log out and reboot back into normal mode.
Note that even if the anti-malware programs get rid of the malware, they may not be able to reverse the effects.

If you have your original mcafee CD, try running the installer, it will give you an option to upgrade or remove your current mcafee install.
You can also manually remove mcafee but this is a tedious task,this involves editing your services, registry etc, Try first by using the mcafee cd you have.
Disconnect yourself from the internet. Go to My Computer on your desktop and right-click. Click on Manage and click on services and applications then click on services. After the list populates stop all services associated with McAfee by right clicking and click on Stop.
Option1:
Go to add/ remove programs and it should work this time.
Option 2 if option 1 doesn't work you may have to reinstall everything
Go to C:/ Program Files/ McAfee and delete the entire folder.
Go to Start on the desktop and click on run
Type 'regedit' click Enter
At the top of the tree click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER/ Software/ Find the McAfee folder right click and delete.
Do the same steps for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
****Please be careful to not delete any other keys because it could mess your PC.
Go to your recycle bin and empty. Run the Add/ Remove Programs

in the past week its freezing mainly when im in my yahoo mail. then closes out everything and wants me to send report. just got new trend micro security before it started acting up. ran system checks, deleted some programs i dont need to free up space, defraged, pc doc found no probs. what else could i try?
Most likely a virus. I had it too. Download AVG it is the only decent virus detection program. I had Spyware DOc, Norton, ETC. and none of them worked but AVG.

Since you are electing the Premium Edition, can you add more RAM? That OS can pull hard on the RAM listed, by the time you add more programs or play any big games it's going to get sluggish.

It probably doesn't need to be that powerful. I'd recommend one that's a year old or newer with 1-2 GB of RAM. Choose Windows XP or Linux.
Mac is great for a lot and is secure beyond all belief. plus it can run vista, and xp. but if you are set on a lower price, go with a PC.
Programming? I'd run Linux as my OS, and use something with great processing speed.
If you want something quick, I'd recommend a Mac G5.
I want an all in one (so I can just use one computer program and not have a spyware program, anivirus, spam and so on) just one that does it all. I want one though that won't slow do my laptop.
Yeah the huge load of programs takes loads of memory and slow downs the system. The complete antivirus,internet security I recomend to you is trend micro internet security http://us.trendmicro.com/us/products/per... it is the best and does not slow down your computer.
I recommend Bullguard Antivirus. It comes with an antivirus, firewall, antispyware, spam filter, and backup as well. You could download the 2-month trial version at http://www.bullguard.com I'm currently using it on my laptop and it does not slow down or eats up memory. The software is not so expensive if you're willing to pay after the trial period, but I assure you it is worth your money. Do try it. Good luck!
I want to download a file from Bitlord and it seems that whever i want to download it,a 'security alert' box will just pop up and says 'Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded'.....................Can anyone please help me or teach me to unblock it so that i can download my file????Please...Thanks!!!
Go into the control panel and select Security center then set the firewall to medium and you should be able to download the files you want
You need to go into control panel to security settings and slide yuor bar to a lighter setting but onece your done you probbly aut put it back where it was to keep your PC safe

I tried logging in at my work and it work perfectly fine but when I log on at home that message always comes up. Pls help me.
In general, SQL errors are a server side issue, meaning it's the site's problem, nothing you can fix on your end.
However, I just tried it and it seems to be working just fine. Perhaps if you try again, it will work. If it doesn't, that may mean your browser stored the broken version of the webpage in its cache.
If you have the page loaded now, make sure to press cntrl+F5 to force the page to download from the site as opposed to from your cache. This will make sure you're getting the most up-to-date results.

i got a virus from lime wire too.. and the songs are junky and suimtimes skipp. i now use itunes ($1 per song) and i like it much better for my ipod... :]

My computer crashed from a virus or other faults I received after setting up SBC DSL. Norton antivirus protection had been downloaded and working. I installed MSIE 7.0 and AT%26T Yahoo uses IE 6.0. I am using the AT%26T provided disc to re-install DSL and online files. The download just never happems after it starts. What's going on here anyway?
When you reinstall windows, be sure to visit microsoft to get all your updates before you try and install any software. Some of the windows updates require you to install, reboot, then revisit windows update, you may need to visit the site after rebooting 3 times before you get all of the updates........
Install necessary programs to get on the internet, once your on the net get all the necessary windows updates then try to install Norton.....
possibly version conflict or a older version of your norton..
i assume you are running this on a single computer. if you install programs like that, you usually have to type in a code so it can only be installed once, on one computer. call them and explain your situation, and they should help you out.
When you uninstall Nortons, some registry keys get left behind and it stops you installing Nortons. Go to www.symantec.com and download and run their free removal tool. The you should be able to reinstall it without any problems.
Ive got avg free edition, but it cant stop trojan horse viruses from keeping appearing!

"is McAfee any good" would be an understatement. McAfee is one of the best Internet Security Suites ever. But as u mentioned abt norton, McAfee 2007 Slows down the computer slightly,definitely not as much as norton does. As of now BitDefender is the market leader, and i was bowled over by its performance. After installing BitDefender my pc was working with the speed which i had experienced without any antivirus installed a few months back. So u can be assured that BitDefender wont put ur pc in the first gear.

I'm a former Norton user. You're right about it slowing your computer; that's one of the reasons I stopped using Norton. I tried McAfee but I didn't care for it. What I've been using for a few years that I'm happy with is Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite ($70 and worth every penny). It has a firewall, anti-virus, and anti-spyware. It's easy to install, configure, and keep updated. Scans and updates can be set to automatic so you won't have to remember to do them. Scans don't use up too much system resources so you can continue with what you're doing without too much slow down. All in all an excellent security suite and I whole-heartedly recommend it. You only need one firewall and one anti-virus program but one anti-spyware program isn't enough. I use Ad-Aware 2007 ($30; more protection than the free version); Spybot Search And Destroy; and Spyware Blaster. I have very little and very few problems with malware. I also recommend CCleaner to keep your Registry clean.
AOL Active Virus Shield is the best free antivirus program at catching viruses, and it is better than mcafee or norton.
Anyone out there running it? As a computer tech I keep thinking MS will someday "iron out" all the virus problems with Windows. I heard about the "One Care" or "No One Cares". That doesn't sound like a deal for the end user. So, what about viruses? Does it look like Vista will be the same as XP? What about this performance thing I keep hearing about. We've got a nation of people too cheap to buy XP capable PC's. Are we now expected to buy even more powerful PC's to run Vista?

I dbl click on one of my folders in windows and a search box opens, not the contents of the folder. I have to right click to actually open it. Word documents open correctly. I also have lost part of my task manager. I searched for viruses etc. and that all came out clean. Any idea what happened and how to fix it. Thank you, I appreciate any help. P.S. I have a new Internet Security program - Kaspersky. Could it possibly cause this? But I've had it for a few months and this paticular problem just started? I am looking to switch though, it wasn't compatible with my Outlook Express from the begining. Help...thanks!
It sounds like your computer has a memory problem. It might be getting ready to crash. Your new Internet Security Progam probably has nothing to do with it.

Try searching for spyware/malware. You can find programs to do this by performing a google search for "spyware remover".
Try Kelly's Korner's fix. These type of stuff commonly (and randomly) appears and sometimes it's just that your PC messed around for awhile. The fix can be found here:

It's a .reg file and so you have to right click and save it onto your computer. Run it and allow it to add the contents to your registry. Good luck...
